The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation (USHCCF) is delighted to announce the generous donation of more than $65,000 by Cinemark Holdings, Inc. to the USHCCF Ecuador Small Business Reconstruction & Recovery program.
WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - June 13, 2016) The funds donated include employee contributions, Cinemark matching funds, and a grant from the Mitchell Foundation.
The USHCCF program was launched in response to the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Ecuador in April 2016. More than 660 people have been killed, with more than 27,000 injured. Thousands of homes, businesses, public buildings and schools are in ruins. In recent days, additional powerful quakes and aftershocks have again struck the region, causing further damage. In Ecuador, Cinemark operates a total of seven theaters, including two in Quito, three in Guayaquil, one in Latacunga and one in Ambato.
USHCCF Chairman Nina Vaca explained: "While the disaster has already faded from the headlines, the acute needs of water, food, clothing and shelter are thankfully being addressed. Unfortunately, the people of Ecuador are also dealing with the long-term effects losing family, friends and property. They are also coping with the challenge of restoring their communities -- specifically, the small business enterprises upon which countless families depend for their livelihood. It is on their behalf that I want to thank the many Cinemark employees who so generously gave from their own pockets to help those affected." Cinemark Holdings then matched all employee contributions.
"Our hearts go out to the people and businesses that have been impacted by the devastating earthquake in Ecuador," said Mark Zoradi, Chief Executive Officer of Cinemark Holdings, Inc. "Though the reconstruction and healing process will take time, we hope our employees' personal donations and the matching funds from Cinemark will aid in rebuilding businesses and helping those in need."
"At the USHCCF, we are staying true to our mission by aiding the reconstruction effort specifically to help entrepreneurs re-build their damaged or destroyed small businesses. We will direct the aid to the communities and small businesses that need it most. We are immensely grateful to Cinemark for bolstering this effort with their generous contribution" said Javier Palomarez, USHCC President & CEO.
